So I thought instead of waiting until Fridays Dr's appointment I might call the Dr's office today to see what their thoughts were about my little situation and the 3 hour glucose test and alternatives.
The nurse called me back tonight about 6pm with a response. She offered me another test in a week or so or diabetic counseling with monitoring and a strict diet. Guess what I chose. Yup, that is right, the counseling with monitoring.
The office is currently getting authorization from the insurance company but once all is approved (a day or so) I will be given a monitor upon my visit on Friday, and I'll have to see the counselor to get a little education on diabetes (even though I don't have diabetes) and glucose. It might be annoying, but it beats the liquid stuff! Also, I think it will be educational, and good for overall health, and for family members who have to deal with it, it will help me understand better.
So, overall I'm very glad I was given this alternative.
